Cool video

Not particually to do with the video, but shows a relaxed side that could be used

more about the anamatic clip

As you can see our animatic clip is not very long, this is because we ran out of time to put all the images to the music. it would have gone on to show a varied selection of shots showing what would continue in the video.

The narrative of the video tells the story of no name. Someone who has become disillusioned with life, and despite his efforts to do something productive with his life always finds himself getting distracted by just having fun and clowning around.

The attempt is to illustrate the journey in his mind of whether education in itself is more of a joke than the jokers he hangs around with and the problems of living in a world with so many opportunities that you can end up not taking advantage of any of them.

As such then the video will entwine clowns just having fun around Cambridge alongside shots of no name in lessons etc until in the end they intertwine before finishing with the first scene again but the car being either side of him and crashing with him in the centre.

test footage

here we have tried a varied number of shots all crucial to our final music video, also we played about on final cut with transactions and effects to make it more interesting. it is not really in a shot order like the final piece will be but have some relevance. we also experimented with the length of the shot. having quick rapid shots and some longer drawn out shots to add contrast to the sequence. we did this by speeding up the clips on the 'speed' icon or making then more slow motion, by using the same icon.
for one effect we wanted to try and fix the camera onto the front of the bike, but due to technical reasons this didn't work and the camera could have been damaged, we will figure out another way in the mean time.
Also we wanted to zoom in closer on the end of the role up but the zoom either went too blurry or didnt go far enough, we will sort something out for this as well

anamatic feedback

the idea of having the clown in an everyday situation worked really well
liked the narrative and the structure of the idea
idea - normal person in car, then turns into clown
idea - fair ground
idea - slightly blurred shots

band research

Sia Furler is a Australian singer born in 1975. She was part of the Australian acid jazz formation, Crisp, which released two albums entitled Word and the Deal and Delirium. Sia later released her own solo album entitled Only See in 1997. she started to become successful as a pop singer when she come to the UK to embark on a solo career.

She produces many albums such as * Only See (1997)
* Healing is Difficult (2000)
* Don't Bring Me Down EP (2003)
* Colour the Small One (2004, 2006)
* Lady Croissant - Live LP (2007)
* Day Too Soon EP (2007)
* Some People Have Real Problems (2008)

In 2000, Sia signed to the Sony Music sub-label DancePool, whereupon she released her major-label debut, Healing is Difficult, an eclectic mix of R&B and jazz. she now lives in New York. each songs seems to be a different genre, so we think she is an 'alternative' artist.

these are some of the music videos that she as produced. the top one got to number 1 in the uk charts. all are quite abstract.,

other ideas

A new idea we have had after watching Suede staring John Hurt was to add an actual story to the video.
To do this we decided that what we had so far was good, and should be kept, but that we needed to introduce a re occurring character who adopted the clown make up, but wore a suite, as he continued to live his life. This would allow us to film scenes such as him in class, or trying to do something with his life but each time gets distracted by the simple joy of clowing around, rather than the respected activities that in some ways are even more of a joke than just having fun.

This will mean we can get some kind of relationship between the audience and the events going on in the video, which ultimately should mean any message we are trying to bring across will grab the viewers attention.

this video shows a good use of clowns featuring in a music video. in a fun and innovative way using effective camera work that we could use in ours.

costume ideas

this is a clip found on you tube showing some possible costumes that we could use in our video.

Sunday lyrics and official video.

"Sunday"

For those who've slept
For those who've kept
Themselves jacked up
How Jesus wept
Sunday
Sunday

For those in need
For those who speed
For those who try to slow their minds with weed
Sunday
Sunday

For those who wake
With a blind headache
Who must be still
Who will sit and wait
For sunday, to be monday

Yeah, it will be ok
Do nothing today
Give yourself a break
Let your imagination run away

For those with guilt
For those who wilt
Under pressure
No tears over spilt milk
Sunday
Sunday

Sunday
Sunday

Sunday
Sunday

Yeah, it will be ok
Do nothing today
Give yourself a break
Let your imagination runaway

Yeah, it will be ok
Do nothing today
Give yourself a break
Let your imagination runaway

This is the video of the song. as you can see it is very strange.

Pitch for Sunday by Sia

We love this track for its natural essensce and simplicity of complextity.

The basic idea is clowns. Clowns and fish. Perhaps a clown fish. With a brief cameo from a penguin.

It will be great.

As our intentions are abstract, we have come up with a list of images to relate to the words;

Sunday - A church
Weed - Clowns wandering through a wonderful field
Clowns chilling out
Abstract white faces with black tears.
Wandering cambridge with our fish.
Fast editing for trippy bits?
Clowns on skateboards

etc etc.

A proffesional video displaying why we should include the fish.

We of course won't have them singing, or try and get them to dance for us, but fish is a good way to display the floaty feeling the song is trying to express.

An example of simerlar works by students last year

Minus the upbeat rhythm, the robot costumes, and the live aspect of this video, its spot on to what we want to achieve with ours.

Don't worry. It will be nothing like this. But we do like it. Sorry.

Pitch for nobody home by the new york fund

The initial plan for this is to do a live video from a performance in london. We intend to email the band and ask if they would help us record a good live video, as currently their only music video looks at the same level as something we would produce. The video would include a narrative of the song, the journey to london and the live portion.

Takeover @ The Hideaway London

The Queens Head London

This student video from last year has a similar acoustic tone to it that defines it as genre. Although we intend to do it as a live video we also want to include some narrative, in the same way this video does.

This is another good example of narrative scenes from last years music videos.

Although not on the same scale at all, the shots and intentions of it would intend to be the same.
